Windows XP Tools
I'm a Windows XP user and find the below tools quite useful. Hope you'll find the same too.
Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP
PowerToys are additional programs that developers work on after a product has been released to manufacturing. They add fun and functionality to the Windows experience. I especially like the Tweak UI component.
You can download Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP here.
Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel for Windows XP
Looking for a tool to read a CDROM ISO image (.iso) without writing to an actual CD-R? The following tool for Windows XP allows image files to be mounted virtually as CD-ROM devices.
You can download the tool inside Microsoft Subscriptions FAQ, search for What are ISO image files and how do I use them?.
Ramdisk.sys RAM Drive
The ramdisk.sys is available from Microsoft Knowledge Base Article Q257405. The driver is written for Windows 2000, but it does work on Windows XP (at least for me).
After the installation, the default disk size is 1 MB only. You may want to increase the size by modifying the registry key DiskSize. I found the maximum size that can be set is 0x01ffffff (or 32 MB), over this limit gives an "Incorrect function" error.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ Ramdisk\Parameters
DiskSize REG_DWORD 0x01ffffff
Also, the driver may not work in a NTFS only machine. You may try to force loading the Fastfat driver by the following registry key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ Fastfat
Start REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (default is 4)
